“We are the music makers. We are the dreamers of dreams”

Orchestra of the Music Makers has been hailed as one of “Singapore’s greatest musical glories”.
Their unexpected success over the past few years has been somewhat of a phenomenon. OMM’s
strong local following and regular season of performances, have earned them international
recognition .
OMM’s success is driven by its members and their shared love of music. The orchestra was
formed in 2008, after a group of young graduates from ensembles in schools and universities
approached Music Director, Tze Law Chan, with the idea of forming an orchestra so they could
continue to play and perform. OMM members are students and working professionals in diverse
fields. But despite their academic and professional commitments, OMM’s musicians remain
dedicated to their artistic goals, and consistently contribute to the best of their ability.
Since its establishment, the orchestra has grown from a small musical initiative championed
by a few friends into a reputable symphony orchestra consisting of 140 musicians. Soon after
its founding the Orchestra was honoured with the HSBC Youth Excellence Award for Musical
Excellence in 2009, and is a recipient of the National Arts Council’s Seed Grant.
OMM has performed in many Music Festivals around the world including the Singapore Arts
Festival, Lichfield Music Festival and the Cheltenham Music Festival in the United Kingdom. Its
performance of Mahler’s 2nd Symphony received international acclaim in notable publicatons
such as Gramaphone (UK), Mostly Classic (Japan), the American Record Guide (USA) and Fanfare
(USA). It has since released several live performance recordings.
OMM will revisit Mahler’s Symphony No.2 and join the Western Australian Youth Orchestra in
Perth for an epic international collaboration at the Perth Concert Hall in July. This extraordinary
event will also feature two of Australia’s most outstanding and popular vocal soloists and a
special chorus in a once in a lifetime experience.
