The Philharmonic is the Association’s second most senior ensemble; a full symphony orchestra dedicated to developing orchestral technique and musicianship through the rehearsal and performance of the classics and contemporary music from the repertoire.
In the Philharmonic we aim to develop a mutually supportive environment and an active space in which the students are challenged to do their very best as people and musicians. Most of all, we are dedicated to nurturing their love of listening to and making music together – as they become the performers, composers, and listeners of the future. Students are also encouraged to make a strong personal commitment to the orchestra and to take responsibility for their own learning, practice and preparation.
Challenging and rewarding repertoire ensures that the Philharmonic is the ideal developmental group for young musicians who wish to be members of the WA Youth Orchestra.

“Around Christmas time when I was about four, I randomly announced from the back of the car that Santa was working on my violin “right now!” That’s when mum realised I was seriously interested in playing the violin and lessons started shortly after…”
